Are you ready to declare a Do Over?

Do Over Cover 2

As kids we believed we had the power to declare “Do Over!” when something didn’t turn out the right way.

We’d stand in the street and boot a second attempt at kickball. We’d crumple up a piece of paper when the dog’s head ended up lopsided and scribble all over on a new one.

We were not afraid to try, again.

Somewhere along the way to adulthood we forgot we still have permission to do that.

And not just with art or neighborhood sports, but something much larger. Something that often owns our days and haunts our weekends. Our careers.

The good news is it’s never too late to declare a Do Over.

The great news is it’s not complicated.

There are only four things you have to invest in if you want to have an amazing career. Whether you love the job you’re at and just want to love it even more, want to change industries or chase a dream, these four things will equip you for the journey.

The reason I was able to declare my own Do Over was because for 5 years I invested in these four things. They changed the entire arc of my career and I think they can change yours too.

This isn’t a book about quitting. I already wrote that one. This isn’t Start part 2. (I would have named it Start Over if it was.) Start was a map, this is the toolkit you’ll need for the journey.

I wrote Do Over for two reasons.

I believe in you.

I believe in work.

You can pre-order it today on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and then be completely surprised when it shows up on April 7, a gift you give yourself that you send into the future. Make sure you keep your receipt because we’re going to give pre-order folks some amazing stuff along the way!

It’s time to rescue Monday. It’s time to reinvent our work. It’s time to get unstuck.

It’s time to declare a Do Over.

I applaud your enthusiasm and panache, Jon. I’m ordering your book, because I respect you for sticking to your guns and, more accurately, your convictions. You’ve claimed your DO OVER, and you’ve done it humbly and honestly. I respect that, and I want to support it.

That’s awesome. How many weeks is the series?

      • Marc
Posted at 13:06h, 10 September Reply

4 weeks. Toward the latter part of the year we remind folks that God does do “do overs” when we become weary from the massive push we had in January.. Where resolutions are proclaimed but life happens afterward.
week 1- You can Have a Do over (new begining)
week 2- Revive the fire in you.
        week 3- Pace yourself
week 4- The Do Over continues

Fantastic concept for a book – my problem is I tend to Do Over….and over…and over

    • Marc
Posted at 13:08h, 10 September Reply

that is not a problem unless your do over is the exact same thing again. Evaluate your life experiences to see what can or should be adjusted.

I’m intrigued… but how will this be different to Quitter + Start?

    • Travis
Posted at 12:57h, 12 September Reply

This is my main concern. I fear that Jon will most likely be taking elements from both Start and Quitter and combining them with his current stage of life, without truly finding anything new to talk about. Of course, this is pure speculation. I just don’t want these books to formulate a cycle and become the “Trial and Error Trilogy” where you Start, then you decide you want to Quit, and then you declare for yourself a Do Over…and so on and so forth.

I can’t wait to read your book Jon! I’m ordering it too (plus who doesn’t love surprises?). Love the concept about a do-over. It’s so easy as an adult to feel that we can’t because we have invested so much time into something. But life is about being brave and sailing away from the safe harbor.

Looking forward to reading this. One of the biggest lies I ever believed in my life was that it was too late for a do over…as you call it. And, while I know it’s a lie, I still see myself get stuck from time to time in that (not at all productive) mentality.

Amazon only charges it when it ships. (and if the price drops for any reason they give you the lower price).

I was just doing a little research to see if I could find some study group materials as I begin a group with friends to read START together and stumbled upon this. I seriously appreciate the honest and encouraging words that help put into perspective what we seem to always overcomplicate as people. That book has changed my life and I can’t wait to share it with new people tomorrow! Just preordered your book (PS I never pre-order anything).

    Can’t wait – Keep writing Jon. 🙂

Rrrr, I was hoping it’d be: How to Get Rich Fast With No Real Work So You can Retire in 12 Months or Less!

    Oh well…

Seriously, going to pre order now. I’ve read many books, followed many people and Jon you’re easily one of the most inspiring people I’ve met/read and listened to. You bring things to the table that I simply have never heard. And you do it with humility, honesty and most important humor! Oh how I think humor is important!

Whether we’re chasing a dream, getting out of debt, dealing with the loss of a loved one…being able to laugh at ourselves, our situation and life I think is transforming.

    Thanks for all you do!

Jon, I have been following you for about 3 years. Can’t wait to read this one! I am so thankful that the Lord gave me a chance to have a do-over! I am working my tail off and loving every minute of it. I am teaching a class full of fourth grade dreamers who, I have no doubt, will change the world. If you had asked me 3 months ago if I thought I would be here, in an amazing school teaching amazing kids, I would have given you every reason why it was impossible. But, all glory to God, He made it happen! We are dreaming big and working hard!

I’ve never watched someone “construct” a book the way you did. I can still recall you posting images of your alarm clock blaring 5:00 AM in red letters or standing over your manuscript as it took up your entire kitchen table and everyone in the comments section was screaming, “Don’t open a window!”

I’ve also never pre-ordered a book, but I will yours. You deserve it.

    Hey Jon,

Don’t know if this is already being addressed but…I’ve signed up for your e-mail list…and a “free first chapter” I do not see 🙁

I’ll probably be pre-ordering this thing anyway, but just wanted to give a heads up in case other folks indicate an issue as well!
