My grandfather drove a tank in World War II. I think about him often, but especially on days like today. If you're in the military, active duty or veteran, thank you for serving our country. May your day be full of peace and gratitude from people like...

(Today is a guest post from Josh Alves!) I often get the impression that people view "Creativity" as an ethereal substance that some people have and some don't. That how creative you are might be determined by your midi-chlorian count. I consider "creativity" to be more like a muscle that works in tandem with the most complex organ in your body. Using the logical, analytical, and rational left side of your brain with your intuitive, experiential, and perceptual right side -results in things like a painting, a story or even the device you're reading this on. "Creativity" is something you exercise. It's within your reach, within your grasp, or - at least - at the end of your fingertips. If you were anywhere on the internet on May 4th, you know that date is celebrated as an unofficial "Star Wars" day. As a little contribution, I designed a few finger puppets that fans could assemble and I'd like to give you a little peek into the creative process. As these are unofficial designs, I prefer to refer to them as "Star Wars-ish". STEP ONE: DESIGN aka THE PHANTOM MENACE Cumulative Experience is one aspect of creativity. There is nothing new under the two suns of Tatooine. Every new idea/creation is the combination or revision of something already existing. Everything is a remix. Borrowing elements of things that I had seen and/or done, I created a template for a simple finger puppet (It was actually first designed for an activity kit to be used with one of the books I've illustrated). Using user-submitted requests, I adapted the template to be used for these Star Wars-ish creations. JA-STEP1

A few months ago I live tweeted the Grammys. While I was, someone I used to know said something mean about me. (Not to my face, but on Twitter, because where's the fun in actually telling someone directly?) I thought he raised an interesting question though, "Why...

(This is a guest post from Matt Ham.) I started playing guitar at 15 after seeing one of my teammates casually strum chords on the back of an activity bus going to a baseball game. Through college, I played in a worship band for a few organizations. A...

I found this picture of myself at my parents' house recently. I think I was in the 7th grade. I'd like to point out the sheer amount of 90s awesomeness contained in 1 photo: Faux mohawk? Check. Mullet? Check. Popped collar? Check. Chess King shirt? Check. Waterfall? Check. You add that...

I’ve been writing and thinking a lot about bravery recently. It’s an essential part of chasing a dream, starting a business and doing just about anything that matters. It's also the first step in changing your job. Whether you want to get better at what...

There's a strange conversation I have roughly 5 times a week via Twitter, Facebook and email. Here is what it looks like. Stranger: "Hi Jon, I need some career advice!" Me: "Sure thing, have you had a chance to read my two books focused on career and...
