Watch this 27 second video the next time fear lies to you.

The next time fear tries to tell you that you need to be amazing at everything in life, please watch this video of rapper 50 Cent throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game.

Can he sell albums? Sure.

Can he perform concerts? Sure.

Has he made millions from endorsements? Sure.

Is he good at throwing a baseball? Nope.

You don’t have to be amazing at everything.

P.S. Here are two bonus ideas. Want to avoid a situation like this?

1. Say “no” to things that seem like opportunities but really aren’t.

2. Practice. A lot. Don’t let the first pitch you try be the one that is televised.

Wow. I was expecting bad, but that was just another level of bad. Come on Fiddy!

  2. Further proof that being built like a brick wall is not an automatic inn to being athletic. I almost feel bad for 50 cent, then I remember he tried acting too…sometimes you gotta know when to back down, or take some lessons.

That commentary. “Think he opened up a little too early?” and “He never had a choice between playing for the Mets and being a rapper.” Gold.

  5. Four words:

    Josiah Bartlet, West Wing.

  6. And, be able to laugh at yourself…because at some point we all throw an easy pitch outside (way outside) of the strike zone.

The way he responded (in my opinion) is the key element of the video.

  7. Jon,

I’ll see your “Say “no” to things that seem like opportunities but really aren’t,” and raise you a “say yes to things that look like nothing, but your gut tells you otherwise!” I tell just such a story here: http://wp.me/p4FLcS-1s

  8. I think Carly Rae Jepson actually outdid 50 Cent for the worst pitch ever.

  9. Seems like he was merely taking the advice of lauded pitching coach, Crash Davis, “Just throw it at the bull…trust me on this….”

Fifty Cents? After that pitch… I’d want a Nickleback!

  12. Kind of pitchy, dawg…

    A twenty five cent toss.

Google Bob Herzog practicing for his first pitch.

  15. The first one I have a heard time with. Saying no and realizing it’s not right for me right now.

  16. Great example of focusing on your strengths. Everything else ask for help with (delegate) or don’t do it at all. You’ll be doing everyone (including yourself) a favor.
